The
CWAM Program Committee is proud to announce
the 2008 Annual Meeting Keynote Speaker,
Ron Chew, Executive Director of the
Wing Luke Asian Museum in Seattle, WA.
Chew,
a Seattle native, has a journalism
background and a history of community
activism. As a self-taught museum
professional, he organized the
Chinese Oral History Project of Seattle
in 1990 and edited a companion volume,
Reflections of
Seattle’s Chinese Americans, in 1994.
Chew was hired in 1991 as the Executive
Director for the
Wing Luke Asian Museum, and has
since elevated it from a struggling
artifact-based museum into an award-winning
center based on collaborative projects
with the region's diverse Asian/ Pacific
Islander communities. His work
with the Museum and community led
to an appointment by President Bill
Clinton to the National Council on
the Humanities in 2001.
Ron
Chew’s broad museum and community
experience will reflect the goal of
CWAM’s 2008 Annual Meeting in Sheridan,
Wyoming, which is focusing on “Museums
as Centers of Community”, and the
theme of “Making a Difference in Your
Community”. For more information about
